Breastfeeding

Fertility awareness whilst breastfeeding

Often when a couple is breastfeeding they consider breastfeeding as family planning. Whilst many mums may well fit the LAM primary criteria and score well on an individual assessment of LAM’s secondary factors, this is often by coincidence than by design. LAM is best learnt antenatally. The focus of these programmes is therefore on how breastfeeding affects fertility rather than using breastfeeding as an effective form of family planning.

The programme formats are either

  • a seminar (particularly for professionals), or
  • an informal morning tea session
